A Baytown police officer shot and killed an unarmed black woman, Pamela Turner, outside of her apartment in Houston, Texas on Monday night.
A video of the incident shows the officer tasing and throwing Turner to the ground before shooting her five times. Turner can be heard yelling “I’m walking to my apartment, you are harassing me” and “Why, Why?” before pleading “I’m pregnant” moments before being killed.
The Baytown Police Department claims Turner grabbed the officer’s taser, but video evidence does not support this claim. The department is now looking for the person who posted the video.
This incident is not the first instance of an attack by a Baytown officer. There have been multiple complaints of excessive force by Officer Nathaniel Brown and in 2018, an off-duty police officer attacked a 19-year-old man. The public is outraged by this latest shooting and calling for justice.
The incident involving Pamela Turner has sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice. Many are questioning the actions of the police officer involved and the justification for the use of deadly force in this situation.
The Baytown Police Department’s claim that Turner grabbed the officer’s taser is being met with skepticism, as video evidence of the incident does not appear to support this assertion.
Furthermore, there are additional concerns about the officer’s conduct and relationship with Turner. The officer was reportedly also working as private security for Turner’s apartment complex and had an undisclosed “history” with her. The fact that the officer was familiar with Turner and lived in the same complex raises questions about the nature of their interaction and whether the officer’s actions were influenced by this prior relationship.
Many are calling for swift action to be taken in response to Turner’s murder and for accountability for the officer involved. Family members and community members are demanding justice for Turner, who they say did not deserve to be killed in this manner. Some have called for the officer to be arrested and charged with murder, while others are calling for sweeping reform of the police department to address systemic issues of racism and police brutality.
It is clear that the death of Pamela Turner has deeply affected the community and that there is a strong desire for justice in response to this tragedy. As the investigation into the incident continues, it will be important for authorities to be transparent and accountable in their handling of the case and to take meaningful steps to address the issues of police misconduct that have been brought to light.
