This week, antifascist graffiti reading “Fascists Bleed When They Come To Riverside” followed by a hammer and sickle, appeared in a popular park in a working class East Austin neighborhood.
This follows after community members spotted recruitment stickers for “The Base,” a neo-nazi paramilitary group, placed around the Krieg Baseball Fields at Roy G. Guerrero park, which were immediately removed.
East Riverside has been the site of clashes against fascists, including this past year’s May Day when the Texas Nomads attempted to harass the International Workers Day march and faced off with communist militants. One of the Nomads, Colin Whites, received a blow to the head that left him bleeding profusely.
