FRANCE: Historic Mobilization Against Pension Reforms, 1.5 million demonstrators! The following is an unofficial translation of the article “Mobilisation historique contre la réforme des retraites : 1,5 millions de manifestants!” originally published December 5 from revolutionary French newspaper La Cause du Peuple. Bracketed text are our own clarifications. Translation by Kate LaBelle This Thursday, December 5, was marked in the heart of the French state by the first big day of strikes and demonstrations against the infamous project of pension reform, which the Macron government wishes to put into action. The strike had been planned since more than two months by the RATP [a state owned public transportation operations company], but what actually occurred was a beautiful interprofessional strike: the Paris metro network was paralyzed, train traffic as well, seven refineries were on strike, ports and docks were at a standstill, taxi drivers organized road blocking operations, more than half of teachers were on strike and a number of schools were closed, the garbage collectors were on strike in Marseille and Montpellier, the electricians and gas workers of the EDF [electric utility company, largely state-owned] and Engie [French multinational utility company] were on strike, and in many other sectors, demonstrations took place. FLORIDA: George Zimmerman Files $100 Million Lawsuit Against Family of Trayvon Martin By Ben Robinson On Wednesday George Zimmerman, known for the murder of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in February 2012, filed a $100 million lawsuit against Martin’s family, attorney, and Florida state authorities. He claims that there was witness fraud at his trial and that the civil defense attorney assigned to it, Ben Crump, defamed him in a book written after the trial. Yesterday a press conference on the suit was scheduled along with a screening of a reactionary documentary named “The Trayvon Martin Hoax,” which attempts to paint Zimmerman as a victim of conspiracy. Both the conference and the screening were cancelled by Coral Gables Art Cinema once the public began to direct their anger toward the venue. In 2013, Zimmerman was acquitted for the murder of Martin, a unarmed Black teenager, after harassing and initiating a confrontation with Martin under Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law. The law used the same subjective criteria of “fearing for one’s life” that many police officers have claimed in order to avoid convictions for the murder of innocent Black people. This example of the bourgeois “justice system” helped to launch the Black Lives Matter movement, which began as a rebellious force against national oppression of Black people and police brutality, before being co-opted by non-governmental organizations and opportunists with electoral ambitions like DeRay McKesson. Zimmerman’s attorney in the lawsuit, Larry Klayman, is the founder of the rightwing nonprofit Judicial Watch. The organization has a long history of making sensational false claims, including one that alleged the Department of Justice under Barack Obama helped organize protests against Zimmerman in 2013. Judicial Watch has also collaborated with the fascist Steve Bannon and his reactionary outlet Breitbart News; while their claims are generally disregarded as unfounded conspiracies by mainstream news, the stories are often picked up by far-right outlets that traffic in misinformation. Democrats Rush to Impeach Trump after First Judicial Hearing By Mike Talavera This morning, Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that the House Judiciary Committee would begin drafting articles of impeachment for President Donald Trump. The move follows a hearing yesterday when four constitutional lawyers were summoned before the committee to testify as to whether Trump had committed an impeachable offense. Two days ago, the House Intelligence Committee released a damning report based on the testimony of its own hearings last month. That investigative period quickly transitioned to the next phase of the process this week. At Wednesday’s hearing, Professor Pamela Karlan said in her opening statement that “the essence of an impeachable offense is a president’s decision to sacrifice the national interest for his own private ends.” Trump’s impeachment has exposed the complex inter-imperialist conflict between the US and Russia, with the “national interest” at stake being US imperialism’s continuing dominance of Eastern Europe. The Democrats have obscured this underlying competition in the course of the proceedings, preferring instead to focus on Trump and his individual misconduct. “The president’s serious misconduct, including bribery, soliciting a personal favor from a foreign leader in exchange for his exercise of power, and obstructing justice and Congress are worse than the misconduct of any prior president,” said Professor Michael Gerhardt in his opening statement. The “foreign leader” referenced is Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who Trump asked to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden, one of the frontrunners in the 2020 Democratic Primary, during a July phone call. This conversation was the basis for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi officially launching the impeachment inquiry in September, and it was the main subject of the House Intelligence investigation. AUSTIN: Graffiti Supports Revolution in Latin America By Mike Talavera Graffiti has been spotted in Austin, TX supporting the Bolivian people’s struggle against the recent fascist coup following the ouster of President Evo Morales as well as the revolutionary movements and popular rebellions  in other Latin American countries oppressed by US imperialism. The various slogans, which were all written in Spanish, translate to: “Long Live the Bolivian People!”, “Down with US imperialism!”, “Out with the US!”, “Out with the Imperialists!”, “Long Live the Oppressed Nations!”, “Onward with the People’s War!”, and “It is Right to Rebel!” Morales resigned on November 10 after allegations of election fraud in his recent reelection that sparked mass protests. Rightwing and fascist elements within the Bolivian government, led by Luis Fernando Camacho and consolidated by Jeanine Áñez, usurped Morales and enacted draconian measures to repress the continuing protests, such as exempting police from criminal liability in their crackdown. At the end of November, Añez signed a bill with opportunist protest leaders annulling the October election and calling for a new one, consolidating power in the country under her rightwing faction in service of US imperialism. The second half of 2019 has witnessed a wave of protests across Latin America in response to the deepening crisis of bureaucratic capitalism in the oppressed nations. On November 21, a national strike rocked Colombia following mass student protests against the government. Poor peasants in Ecuador, which saw weeks of riots against the government over IMF-imposed austerity measures in October, declared a mining-free zone in the Mira River Basin last month. Fascist Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has continued his war on the masses as a lackey of US imperialism and representative of the landlord-bureaucratic state, drawing massive waves of protests and strikes in the process. Finally, the popular rebellion in Chile continues to rage on despite the reactionary old state repeatedly attempting to pacify protesters with various reforms. Read more stories @ incendiarynews.com
FRANCE: Comrade Théo Released from Prison By The Incendiary Editorial Board It is our great pleasure to announce that yesterday Comrade Théo El Ghozzi, political prisoner of the French state, was released. He had been imprisoned since July 22 for protesting reactionary labor laws as part of the Yellow Vest movement. He spent a great deal of time on hunger strike, struggling for the rights of political prisoners in France and around the world, and documented several violations of his rights in his letters from jail. We will continue to report on his case as more details come out. Read more about Comrade Théo @ incendiarynews.com #France #giletsjaunes
PALESTINE: Israel Launches Airstrikes Against Gaza By Felipe Vera Last weekend, Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) released a statement claiming to have launched several airstrikes in Gaza against Hamas (The Islamic Resistance Movement). These airstrikes coincide with large protests in Palestine against US imperialism and Israeli occupation, including one last Friday where a Palestinian teenager was shot and killed. An IDF soldier shot 16-year-old Fahed al-Astal in the stomach at the latest Great March of Return protest, which have been organizing weekly on the Israeli-Gaza border since March 2018. Over the past several weeks the Committee for the Great Return March Processions has temporarily suspended the demonstrations; al-Astal was killed in an unsanctioned protest, mostly comprised of youth who rebelled against the orders of opportunist leaders. On November 26, the Fatah party organized the Day of Rage protests in response to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s declaration that Israeli settlements in the West Bank do not violate international law. Since the Six Days War in 1967, Israel has been steadily expanding its occupation further into the West Bank, where it has been violently displacing Palestinians from their land and establishing settlements, which are later annexed under Israeli control. Thousands of Palestinians took to the streets and targeted Israeli military checkpoints, rebelling against the occupation and US support for it. Many carried signs which stated, “Trump to impeachment, Netanyahu to jail, the occupation will go and we will remain on our land.” At several checkpoints, the Palestinian masses hurled rocks at Israeli forces. The IDF viciously attacked protesters with rubber bullets and tear gas, injuring over 77 people. Read the full story @ incendiarynews.com #Palestine #Gaza
