Photos of May Day propaganda around Boyle Heights were sent to Incendiary this morning. Big posters can be seen with revolutionary slogans and Maoist imagery on several busy intersections like 1st/Boyle and 4th/Boyle, as well as popular neighborhood centers like Mariachi Plaza and Hollenbeck Park.
According to Red Guards Los Angeles (RGLA) social media posts, this year’s May Day rally will start at Mariachi Plaza at 6 p.m. This marks the second year of the annual Maoist-led “Red May Day,” as promoted by RGLA.
Last year’s Red May Day marked the first time Boyle Heights, and perhaps Los Angeles in general, has seen an independent militant Communist May Day, according to a post on their website.
In the city, just like the rest of the country, May Day rallies, parades, and celebrations have been co-opted by the labor aristocracy of the American Federation of Labor-Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), and other imperialist unions, along with revisionist parties and organizations, reformist nonprofits, and the imperialist Democratic Party.
Communists in Los Angeles and throughout the country, in cities like Austin, Kansas City, Pittsburgh, and Charlotte, have retaken May Day for the working class and the masses, the rightful owners of this historic and international holiday.
