Robert Francis O’Rourke staged a rally in Houston at the Texas Southern University campus in the Third Ward (a working class, majority Black neighborhood) as the second leg of his Texas tour in his presidential campaign.
Local activists agitated outside of the rally. They unfurled a banner and passed out leaflets explaining their opposition to O’Rourke and to bourgeois elections generally. Several people listened to the brief speeches and expressed anger at O’Rourke’s support for the imperialist-Israeli occupation of Palestine and for his role in gentrifying Durangito, a Chicano working class neighborhood in El Paso.
One Third Ward resident was firmly supportive of the activists and told Incendiary “I don’t trust him, I’m glad you guys did this.”
